SEASONAL RECYCLING

Recycle Your Grass Clippings

Grasscycling is the practice of leaving your grass clippings on the lawn rather than bagging them. As the clippings break down, they release moisture and nutrients into the soil.

Grass clippings are 80% water – leaving them on the lawn will prevent excessive moisture loss and return water to the soil. They decompose quickly and do not cause thatch. You can have a beautiful lawn using less water and fertilizer, plus save time and money, by leaving your grass clippings on the lawn.

What’s more, grass clippings account for 75% of all yard waste, so leaving your grass clippings on the lawn helps save space in the landfill.

If you don’t want to leave your clippings on your lawn, but still want to recycle them, you can bring them to the SSC transfer station. For a small fee, Meridian residents and commercial landscapers can drop off grass clippings at the SSC transfer station, located behind our facility at 2130 West Franklin Road.

The clippings will be screened for trash and then taken to a green composter for recycling.
